Michelle Buonincontri, CFP®, CDFA™
Michelle has over 20 years in Financial Services and is a contributor to Investopedia. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP) specializing in the issues of divorce as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™ (CDFA) and has training as a mediator, as part of a Collaborative Divorce team, as well as a life coach. Her own divorce experience has led her to seek these additional trainings and shift the focus of her Life’s work from traditional Investment Management/Retirement & Tax planning to that of supporting other families going through this transition
Acting as a Financial Neutral, Michelle helps individuals or couples who are working out their divorce amicably to know that they will be “OK” financially afterwards. She partners with clients or with their Attorney or Mediator or part of a Collaborative Divorce team to provide data and reports that allows them to evaluate the consequences of various financial splits; get a clearer picture of finances “pre” and “post” divorce, and better understand the projected short and long-term impacts of their decisions 5, 10, 20+ years into the future. This in turn leads to peace of mind, a shorter less costly process and a more equitable financial settlement so that clients may be left as whole and complete as possible in a difficult situation.
Divorce can be one of the most devastating events in your life, leaving you shaken and uncertain of what steps to take next, but it can also be an opportunity for discovery and growth. Michelle believes you can shift your perspective, move forward, and declare a new possibility of what your life can look like.
The ultimate goal of all that she does is to help prepare you for a post-divorce life –whether that’s developing creative solutions with available income, exploring career readiness and professional skills, connecting you with new professionals and advisors or providing information to help you make sense of retirement benefits. You may now be single, but you do not have to do it alone!

María Tomás-Keegan is a Certified Life Transition Coach for Women, whose specialty is helping professional women successfully recover from major life events that rocked their personal world. She knows first-hand how hard it can be to manage work, family obligations and take care of herself while her personal world crumbled around her. She also knows how many things can change when life events like divorce, loss, care-giving, layoff or retirement happen (to name a few).
Through her 30+ year career in marketing, investor relations and public relations, working for small family-owned companies and international corporations, she has faced her share of life transitions. Juggling the responsibilities of her busy career while dealing with divorce, caring for her parents, relocating, changing careers, remarriage, a layoff and forced early retirement, she learned about resilience, compassion (especially for herself) and what powered her through.
After retiring from IBM, María reinvented herself so that she can teach other professional women what she learned — when life happens to even the strongest among us, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and that light comes from within. And, when we find that light it leads us to a remarkable new beginning.
She believes that it’s every woman’s birthright to follow her dreams, and when she does that successfully, she can create a world where everyone around her benefits. Each woman’s values, vision and passion for taking action are the foundation for that world. When women are empowered to design a strong foundation, she wins and everyone around her wins. She lives life by Choice, not by chance!
